In the summer of 2010, Colton began a journey that would change his life in inexplicable ways. Colton and his younger sister Schyler stood under the hot summer sun in line at the American Idol Season 10 auditions warming up for their duet version of “What About Now?” by former American Idol finalist, Daughtry. From the get-go, the brother-sister duo wowed the judges and sealed their fate as semi-finalists in the Season 10 competition.
While Colton didn’t make it to the Top 24, he left the competition with an inspired spirit and used the energy he gained from realizing he was called to a greater purpose to propel himself as an artist. Mega-churches including Saddleback Church in southern California, invited Colton to perform and gave him a platform to continue to become a better performer. Through these experiences, he was able to cultivate his vocal depth, diversify his arrangement and composition style, augment his instrumentation technique, improve his range, and perfect his performance and stage presence.
Colton’s musical journey has been a long time in the making, beginning with piano lessons at 7 years old. He honed his early musical talent with lessons from his aunt and a family friend. When he was 13, Colton remembers his first concert performing “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe. That’s when he knew he had found his calling. As summer 2011 rolled around, Colton found himself at American Idol Season 11 auditions once again. Colton didn’t know it, but he had been signed up for an audition with his sister Schyler. Reluctant though he was, celebrity judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson convinced him to audition once more.
This time, he succeeded. An early fan favorite, and clearly a mature artist and musician at this point, Colton progressed through the Season 11 competition. Colton’s unique arrangements of timeless favorites, “Piano Man,” “Time After Time,” and current hit single “Love The Way You Lie” quickly earned him a loyal and enthusiastic fan following. Colton continued to amaze American Idol audiences, never placing in the bottom three until his last week in the competition. A shocking early elimination, Colton placed 7th in Season 11, but still continues to sell records at an astounding rate. Outselling the remaining contestants, Colton sold the second highest number of iTunes downloads, despite his early departure from the show. With a humble spirit, Colton answers the call to be a musician, a God-given talent, while recognizing he is a messenger for a purpose greater than himself. Colton recently signed a recording deal with EMI CMG Label Group/Sparrow Records and 19 Recordings. He is currently working on his first studio album.
New single “You Are” is now available on itunes.
